Un-Digression

Looking back on my blog I realize that the beginning of my blog was A LOT more formal than recent posts have been leaning towards.  Here is my Un-Digression, a new commitment to meaningful and thoughtful blog posts.  Not to say that silliness isn't needed.  I will continue with random and perhaps spontaneous posts, but mixed in with it you can be sure to find something useful to you in your life, perhaps.  I am looking for equipoise.

Gordon B. Hinckley once said:

Cynics do not contribute
Skeptics do not create
Doubters do not achieve

This means we should be people who have optimism and hope, and we should always believe so we can contribute, create, and achieve beautiful and virtuous things.

7300 Days, One Life

I have nearly lived for 7300 days.  Of course, I am approximating, but we like round, even, numbers that are nice to us.
7300 days.  Seven Thousand Three Hundred.  That is a long time, a big number of days.  I wish I had a dollar for every day I've lived.  That would be nice.
I know you've been expecting this, but why don't you look back at each day of your life, like I am with mine, and consider what has been done with each individual day.  How does that change your perspective on the life you have lived so far?  Is it freaky to find that you can't remember but for specific moments of those days?  Do you write in a journal that can help you record how you've grown?
Each day counts, this is true, but it is also futile to scrutinize each day as an individual because you can't see yourself grow if you look at a single day.  Growth and learning take time.  The whole perspective is what you need.  Looking out of that giant window on the seventh floor and seeing it all at the same time.  You can change in one day, but what matters is that the change stuck over time.
7300 days, one life

Bliss in a Bite

My sister made me eat a S'mores crepe yesterday.  Melted marshmallow and chocolate wrapped in a crepe.  She said you take a bite and you feel bliss!  I would have to say that my mouth definitely agreed!

The Subject of Discreet Dealings

Blog Reader,
You have been the subject of discreet dealings and now must pay the consequences.  If you do not comply you will suffer.  Now that we know where you live, you have no choice but to hand yourself over.  There is nothing you can do to stop us; there is no where for you to hide.  We will find you.

Have a nice day,
D.D.A.L.A.M.

 Blog Reader,
You are right to ask if you should fear us.  Fear comes from the unknown.  You will be contacted shortly for the consequences to your recent activity.  We will find you, and you will submit.  There is nothing you can do.

Sincerely,
D.D.A.L.A.M.

Wisdom From Lord Of The Rings

Yesterday I posted thoughts on some quotes from Lord of the Rings, a fabulous book indeed.  Gandalf the Wizard, Frodo the Hobbit, and Gildor the Elf.  A good array of people who have wise things to say.
The first time I read the book I perceived these quite life-applicable quotes and loved them and wished to record them somewhere, but was engrossed in the reading and finishing of the book and so quickly lost the location of the wisdom.  As I am reading it again, I decided to actually do what I had planned to three years ago and record the quotes and how I find them applicable to our life.
Please join with me in enjoying the Awesomeness of Lord of the Rings as you take in these thoughts.

The Wide World

"And I warn you that peril is now both before you and behind you, and upon either side...
The wide world is all about you:  you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot for ever fence it out."
-Gildor

To be of the world is wrong.  It's true, but hard to do because of how hard the world is pushing.  We are told to be in the world but not to partake of it.  Be the example that is there, shining in the darkness.  So as you feel like keeping the world out of your fence, know that you can live in the world and with it, just remember not to live in harmony with its evil.

The Road

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with weary feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river:  its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary.  "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say.  "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to."
-Frodo

Each of us has a path we can follow.  We must choose the right path and keep on going, no matter how afraid or discouraged or weary we may be.  It will be hard, and we may not know the right way at first, but we can make it.  There is one Correct Road, then there is the wrong road, the one you don't want to follow because it doesn't take you anywhere.  Make sure you're on the right road when you walk out your door and then all that risking the dangers of the world will be worth it.

Our Time

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf,  "and so do all who live to see such times.  But that is not for them to decide.  All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

What is more important than this:  deciding what to do with the time given to us?  Living in the past, wishing we didn't have to do what we need to do, all this is time wasting.  Embrace what you have been given and the trials you have been challenged with and you will be stronger and get the better part in the end.  How have you spent your time?  Will you answer that question with regret?

An Argument For Star Wars

Recently we all celebrated Star Wars day:  May the Fourth be with you!  I hope you all spent the day wondering who you could share that wonderful phrase with (and simultaneously share the fact that you are a complete Star Wars fan!).
So, do you think that Star Wars is applicable to life?  Maybe not, but my little sisters do!  And I would have to agree with them.  Dark Vader is a play character, and not a good guy (can you believe it!).  And you know the theme for the Sith Lord?  Yes, my sisters made sure that they were dun-dun-dun-ing that while playing with this Dark Vader.  Not only does George Lucas have in impact on little children but John Williams creates such awesome music that 3- and 5-year-olds know and remember it!  What awesomeness is Star Wars!?!

I am Victorious!

I have conquered the enemy, a vicious forest full of carnivorous plants that are only defeated by the chopping of their leaves to tiny bits.  It was a hard fight and several times I had to retrace my steps and begin anew.  But their ferocity is diminished and they are no more a threat to our castle that houses the princesses of The Bend.  These young princesses will grow someday to become the queens of the land and they must be protected from the plants that threaten to overwhelm the garden.
But for now, the hero has pushed them back and all the kingdom is safe again.

Toenails And Butterflies

I painted my toenails!  Aren't butterflies the perfect icon for spring?  And pastel purple, green, and pink just epitomize the spring feel!

Comment

I felt like going to a friend's blog and commenting.

Then I didn't see any recent posts that I had a comment opinion about so I came to my blog to comment here.
Well, I challenge all of you to comment on this comment.  And to make an interesting post out of this comment instead of sitting there, in your chair, keeping your opinion selfishly to yourself.

I wonder who reads the comments anyway?

Do You?

Some Not So Nice Poetry

A Dream Deferred

by Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--and then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

Some Very Nice Poetry

TO AUTUMN. (John Keats)
                                            1.
SEASON of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
        Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
        With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
        And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.
                                            2.
Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
        Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reap’d furrow sound asleep,
Drows’d with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
        Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.
                                            3.
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,—
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
        And touch the stubble plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
            Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
    And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
        The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

Scratch

I hear someone
scratching letters,
but I can't hear
the story they tell.
I myself
write down stories
and listen to
the tale they sound.
A new language
spoke by pencils
and mysterious
still to hear.
What new story
might be written
you can hear
but cannot tell.

Christmas

Merry Christmas! It is now boxing day and I am wishing you the best.
I had a wonderful Christmas that, though not quite what I expected. It was a great experience and everyone is happy and we all learned something, I think (I hope).
Now we get to look forward to the new year! This is my second blogging Christmas and here I am, looking back at the year and saying that I didn't blog enough but I sure did write in my journal!

Christmas Eve

It is the day before Christmas and all through the house,
Presents are hiding in corners and couches.
Tomorrow the children will all be gathered
and tissue paper, boxes, bags and wrappers
will cover the floor, the tables and chairs
as presents are given, opened, and shared.

Aren't you looking forward to it? No matter how much work it takes to get to that point, it is worth it to see smiles on your family's faces!
I just love Christmas!

Conglomeration

Here's another few funny things I wanted to remember from a top ten list about Phobias on Merriam-Webster.com

Eremophobia: The morbid dread of being alone.

Kakorrhaphiophobia: An abnormal fear of failure.

Phobophobia: An excessive fear of acquiring a phobia.

Don't be afraid of getting these...I'm sure they're not too much of an acquired trait.

Words

“The pages are still blank, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words all being there, written in invisible ink and clamoring to become visible.”

– Vladimir Nabokov, Lectures on Literature, 1980

“The great enemy of clear language is insincerity. When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink.”

– George Orwell, "Politics and the English Language," 1946

“For there is no doubt that I have lots of words inside me; but at moments, like rush-hour traffic at the mouth of a tunnel, they jam.”

– John Updike, Self-Consciousness, 1989

“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter – it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

– Mark Twain, 1888

“'Well,' said Owl, 'the customary procedure in such cases is as follows.'

'What does Crustimoney Proseedcake mean?'
said Pooh. 'For I am a Bear of Very Little Brain, and long words Bother me.'

'It means the Thing to Do.'

'As long as it means that, I don’t mind,' said Pooh humbly.'”

– A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh, 1926

I found these wonderful quotes on Merriam-Webster.com. They are part of the Top 10 Favorite Quotations About Words list. I really enjoyed these quotes.

Ocean Picture

Do you remember in elementary school when you went to art class and had a lot of fun making innocent yet obviously brilliant art? Yup, I just relived my childhood by coloring an ocean scene in crayon and then painting watercolor blue over the top to make it look like the ocean. Brilliant technique! Perhaps I'll put up my results and perhaps I shall use the technique in a different way and report visually. Either way, you should try it. It'll be a work of art!

I wish to have the world in my hands
I want it all; I wish for sweet dreams
happily ever afters
and lots to laugh at

Lights, Camera, SHOOT

OK so my big question is going to be posted in a rhyme type of thing. K, ready?

Anyone can take a picture and sometimes anyone can capture a good picture.
So does that mean that mean everyone is a photographer?
Does that mean I am just an anyone or am I an actual, good photographer?

hmmm. Things in life that you don't always want to ponder but you must find a decision to.

I promise that soon I'll post some of the artwork and pictures I've been working on. Perhaps you'll like it and perhaps I'll never get the time to put it up but a promise is a promise (and I never made a promise).

Winter (in anticipation of)

The first snow falls like floating feathers,
Sparkling white fluff covers the ground.
Winter hasn't many weathers,
Snow, snow, snow is all that's around.
Covering the grass and old autumn leaves
Like the top of an apple pie crust.
Winter blows snow into the eaves,
Then the blizzard rushes it out like dust.
The birds go away because it's too cold,
But we go out before we're told.

Do You Like Art?

If you like art, doing it I mean, then you should become an artist! No worries, being an artist is the funnest thing you'll do in your life! It's way hard to become one, but this job-that-isn't-a-real-job will be a lifelong blessing. First you'll need a mile-long list of expensive supplies. Then you need a little bit of talent and a lot of hard work and you're on your way to becoming an artist. You won't eat, because although being an artist is fun, materials are expensive and your paycheck won't cover the costs. It is so totally worth it, though. And though many people will enjoy looking at your art, just as many people will be putting it down. You will gain fans and enemies. Being an artist is really great. I suggest you try it some time because the cons totally outweigh the pros.

Another assignment

Okay, if you weren't aware, I had to start a Shakespeare blog for my Shakespeare class so you should check it out: Not Really Erroneous
And if you were aware of this, then you should check out the other tumblr blog I had to create for my 2D Design class, which is quite different and therefore frustrating but you should look at it anyway. It's called Concepts and Apostrophes. This blog-type-thing will be featuring more artwork than writing so maybe you'll want to look at it. It should be exciting!

Blog Post

Finally, you say?

well then!

No, actually I'm really caught up in homer-work and can't really take time to say stuff-about and just-sit and form-an-opinion.
It is hard being a college student, let me tell ya.
But today I have a treat for you!
a story
about a super hero
yeah, it's gonna be good.

Lucy was driving down the street and her favorite song just ended. She switched the radio channel. The news. Always the news.
This time she liked what she heard...

This is my thoughts and stuff on Shakespeare and some of his writings. It'll basically explain itself so have at it!

KKKKKKKKkkkkkkk

That was my engine dying.

yeah, doing homework at nine-thirty at night is not the most pleasant thing.
Oh, I just wanted to let you know that someday you'll see my name (my real name) on a book someday.  A novel that me, myself, and I write and publish.  And yes it will be epic!  -youwillreadit-
I can just imagine how it would feel to sell a book and get a letter from a kid reading it on the other side of the country saying that they loved my book and they love it (wait...they said that already)  I mean, wouldn't that be the best feeling ever!!  Like waking up on Christmas morning and opening your presents and knowing that the world is alright and life is all right and you can sit there enjoying nothing and everything...aaaaawweesssoooommme...

Haiku, what about you?

School

nearly the end to
my lazy, lovely summer
and now life begins!

I'll see friends again.
Is homework really worth it?
I think it might be!

just in case I die
know I went to school willing
to learn my brains out.

Can free time really
be so close to ending now?
summer is so short.

school is where students
learn, listen, socialize, live

The Weight of the World

I saw some weights in the corner just barely and, since I was thinking about the fast-approaching drastic change in my life, I found a commonness between them. School, like a weight, is a heavy thing in this life and it weighs down on us. But one thing my father recently used these weights for is to hold down some wood he was gluing to fix the table. Like weights, again, trials are hard and heavy but they hold us in the right place in life, gluing us and making us stronger for later trials that could break us.
Wow, I've really got this analogy going! Well, don't let this post weigh you down too much! Have a fun weekend!

A momentous occasion

I'm actually posting!
I know, another bland post about posting on a blog...but no!
I refuse to bore you half to death!
An update is required for I finally added new pictures (check 'em out!) and I couldn't resist adding my hundredth post along with it. I feel so useless in this world, posting one hundred times in less than a year. Makes me feel like a hermit who's got nothing more interesting to do in life. But my pictures stand as proof that I don't sit around at my computer ALL day, just most of the day.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this little window into my life.

Ninety Nine and Counting

99 is the name of a girl control agent in the show Get Smart.
99 is the number of post this is.
99 is how many red balloons there are in that song.
99 bottles of rootbeer on the wall when you're on a long car ride.
99 comes before one hundred.
neun und neunzig, in other words, is an important number.
And this is my ninety nine! ENJOY!

Whoa, August

I love the number two. And today is the second!
Wow, the summer break went by fast. It isn't over yet, but it sure is getting closer and closer.
Summer is definitely a blast! I went to the Oregon Coast last month and took some pictures. Sometime soon there'll be some of the good ones up on my pictures tab.
Sadjuistic greetings from ME!

The Late Night Gabber

I feel bad for all of you who regularly read my blog but since nobody really does I gave the internet the silent treatment (sorta) for the past month.
It is really late at night, it really is. And yet, here you find me, blabbing away on a computer...pathetic, really.
Oh, and since no one reads my blog regularly, I've conveniently added recently a label called favorites. It is self explanatory but I really like the posts under that label. The funnest, funniest, and most thoughtful posts I've made so far happen to be there so take a look! (Just in case you missed something. And in case I missed something drop me a comment to tell me if you think a post should be added to it ;)

Something Worse

Let me tell you something worse than allergies. It's dental work. When you have to get cavities filled and they numb up your mouth. And then it's numb ALL day! The funny part about this is having half your tongue numb and your whole lip and then trying to eat lunch. Yeah, can't taste anything. Oh, and having to go do business where you talk to people, and smile, and you know that your smile is lopsided because you can't even feel it and your pronunciation is down the drain because you only have half a tongue and an upper lip.
It's just great.

Advice on life: never get a cavity...EVER!

p.s. There is no way to explain or remember the feeling of having your mouth numb. If you want to try it out, just because it is a unique and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I would repeal my earlier comment on not getting a cavity. But be warned! The pain, in my opinion, is NOT worth the experience.

Cookie Dough

There is only one thing that I live on this planet for and that is cookie dough (yes, if you didn't know it, I'm an alien from a different galaxy). For some reason there is a charm to the uncooked, raw egg mixed with butter, sugar, and flour. I can't resist it. And when I am accomplished and make a good batch...I'm in heaven. Of course, cookies are a great dessert to the meal of cookie dough, when you can't stand the richness anymore. And when you put the cookie dough in Ice Cream, that is ultimate perfection. LOVE IT!!!

There is a marker on the desk

Right next to me lies a green-ish Sharpie. What should I do with it? I could mail it to my friend. I could write my dad a thank-you card. I could color on the wall. I could plant it in the garden. I could drop it in a puddle, squish it, poke my sister with it, photocopy it, sing into it, make a movie about it, drop it from the top of a really tall building, write a book, clean the mirror, take it apart and cook it for dinner, flush it down the toilet, cover it with stickers, type a blog post with it, stick a magnet on it and put it on the fridge or just put it in the freezer. I could call it my best friend and watch TV all day with it. I could wrap it up and give it to an elephant for its birthday. I could take it for a walk, with a leash of course. Or I could dip it in the mod podge and put it on the ceiling. But I should probably put it away before I get too carried away.

...and again

and again and again. I just love making these things! Aren't they adorable? I think that they're fantastic and have so many uses. So many, in fact, that I can't seem to be able to use one because I want to save it for exactly the right way.

I've been entertaining my many siblings by making them these little books. They love them! And they are so perfect and feel so much like a real book. Can you tell that I'm proud? Just go ahead and try to dampen my spirit about them, I dare you!

Only a Quote

Work is not measured by how hard it is, but by what the outcome is.

Sometimes outcomes are hard to see when you're in the middle of something, and sometimes they are less material and more internal.

My Title

I was just reading the title of my blog. I know, lame. You'd think I would pay more attention because it IS my blog, right? Well, I was thinking about the reason I named it that. I'll tell you. It is because I wanted to have a cool quote that planted seeds of hope into people's thoughts when they read it. But I realize that this certain quote can have so much more meaning, especially pertaining to a blog.

Dreams inspire, Reality makes it happen.

I'll elaborate
So, you write stuff on a blog, right? You write all about all your hopes, dreams, and even what happens to you. You may even make goals, talk to people, express yourself, complain, show off, learn. But all it is is digital stuff that is stuck in the hardware of your computer; ones and zeroes that display something black, white, red, green, blue on a computer monitor. In the end it actually isn't anything at all. But ideas, thoughts, words, writing...they all inspire something. Your thoughts turn into actions and as you think more about doing something, you think about a way to do it. Your actions can turn your dreams into reality. It may seem too good to be true, but you are a human, meaning you have agency, and that is a power that can turn hopes, wishes, and dreams into living, loving, and wonderfully real things. Another quote: if you can believe it, you can achieve it. Go, live your dream. And when you've accomplished it, find a new one, and live that one too. Today is the first day of a new month, what better time to set a goal with plenty of time to achieve it. And always smile and be happy. When you pretend to be happy, even when you're frustrated, it is hard to remember that you're pretending.

I've done it again

There you have it. My goal for NOT posting until Saturday has flown out the window...again. I officially need to make a more attainable goal. But guess what? I DID IT AGAIN!!!!
I made another book, this time out of necessity. My sister didn't get a yearbook from school this year but she wanted a signature book (and scrapbook-type-thing) so I volunteered to make one for her. And here it is! School colors and all.

I have to admit that though I'm proud, the cover design was mostly of her choosing. But she did give me the credit for it by having a "made by" card to glue into the cover. That made me happy.
(ps again, sorry for the bad quality pics)

Me, being craftsy

I swore I wouldn't post until the twenty-eighth, but I couldn't resist. I was just having so much fun last night, until midnight, making something. (I have to give some credit to my future-and former-roommate, who told me to do something for myself or I wouldn't have even attempted this ;)
I had an old tissue box with a pretty pattern and an old cereal box (without a pretty pattern) and an old patterned paper gift bag that I loved. I just had to do something with them. This is what I came up with:
A little memo book and a journal! They were so much fun to make! I can't wait to use them. Now all I have to do is find a clasp-type-thing to close the journal with. Not sure what to use yet...(if you've got some brilliant ideas, let me know!)
ps sorry about the bad quality pics. I was in a hurry.

Eleven

only 11 days

"Of course there is no going back, but only forward. Rather than dwelling on the past, we should make the most of today, of the here and now, doing all we can to provide pleasant memories for the future."

I am conqueror

I planted these babies a couple days ago. All by myself. They weigh about a ton each - okay, that IS exaggerating a bit too much, but they were very heavy. And prickly. But now they are planted and I Am Conqueror!

Luck

Today is one of the best days of the entire year, not to mention the month of May. It just so happens that it is Friday the thirteenth, a personal day of good luck and happiness and good stuff. I wish you luck in all your endeavors and remember: thirteen is divisible by seven, which is a lucky number, so thirteen is also a lucky number.

Wait

Waiting has got to be the worst thing ever invented.
Patience is a virtue, don't forget to remind me about that. Because I seem to be forgetting a lot lately.

What makes me REALLY happy!

You know you're living the life when this is what you see when you get up in the morning:and then Mommy says that you can have as much as you want as a nutella-and-jam sandwich.

Peeerrrrrfect. That is when I jump for joy because my family is ginormous. Because Mommy buys everything in bulk, you get a huge tub of nutella to eat as much as you like.

Are you jealous now?

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

I know what this day means to all the mothers out there, especially since I'm the oldest of soon-to-be-eleven children. I look up to my mom in wonder, amazement, and gratitude for all she's done for all of us. I also thank all the women who have been an influence for good in my life and who've taught me all I know today. If I didn't know you, where would I be? Definitely not where I am! So thank you and Happy Mother's Day!

The sky, the sun, the wind, the warm air, and the allergies

Spring just bounces in and everything is absolutely perfect because the air is just the right temperature and the flowers are in bloom and the sky is brilliantly blue with fluffy white clouds. Picture perfect, am I right?
Well, then you have to have the allergy attack. Pollens come with flowers and greening trees and earth and one can't even enjoy it because they can't go outside without sneezing their brains out or rubbing their eyes until you can't open them for the swollen redness. Pathetic. I think allergies are worse than mosquitoes.

May is the month of....

May
I love this month.
It's one of the best.
Not only is my birthday in its borders, but also my friend's
and my sister's
and my other sister's
And it is the month that you are released from school
the month that the pools open
the month when the air starts warming up and you just fall in love with Spring
the month that gets you excited for the wonderful vacation and fun of Summer
and the month that has my birthday in it
wait, did I already mention that? Well, it is practically the best part of the month, so let the sun shine and warm the most wonderful month: May.

YAAAY!!!

I talked to my roommate today! On Skype. It was fantastically relieving. I've been sorta stressed with having to adjust moving home and that just made me feel a little bit better to see her. Besides it totally messing up my afternoon plans and my family's, but hey! It wasn't that bad. AND it was worth it.

With it being the season of Spring and all I've gone outside so many times to take tons of pictures. There are some decent ones that you can see under my pictures tab.

Alright, now for a quote to make you happy, smiley, and hopeful:
"There will come a moment when you realize that virtually anything is possible. Nothing is too good to be true."
-Kobi Yamada
